What was the highlight of Holiday Inn Chandigarh Panchkula, an IHG Hotel
5 star at a 4 star price and service.
Where the hotel truly excels is its pricing. For a one-night stay with a half-board meal plan, it is 30-40% cheaper than other 5-star hotels in the Chandigarh and Panchkula area (as of June '24). This significant price difference makes it easier to overlook the shortcomings mentioned above. At this price point, it offers great value for a 5-star property.
Certain areas of the hotel resemble a storeroom, detracting from the overall appearance. The lobby, though functional, does not exude the grandeur one expects from a 5-star property. The front office staff were generally indifferent, with a few exceptions. Their lack of warmth was noticeable, but one staff member did allow us a late check-out by two hours, which was a nice gesture. The rooms were adequately furnished but fell short of the high standards typical of a 5-star establishment. However, rooms in the 1 to 18 series, especially 16 and 17, offered stunning golf course and mountain views, which was a highlight of our stay. The buffet variety was satisfactory, but not extraordinary. Most dishes rated around 6 out of 10 for taste, while the service earned a higher score of 8 out of 10. The hotel also features a spa and massage center, seemingly outsourced and providing average service, which I would rate 5 out of 10. However, discounts of 25-30% can be negotiated.
